Scientific trajectory
I read both Modern History and Economics at University of Barcelona. My first stage as an economic historian was developed under the supervision of Carlos Martínez Shaw at the UB (maritime and financial history, eighteenth century, under the influence of the professor Pierre Vilar), I shared my research activity with teaching in secondary school, official since 1986. It ended when I entered as a lecturer at the University of A Coruña, UDC (1991) and I read my phD at the UB, 1992. In 1994 associate professor, UDC; since 2019 accredited full Professor (Social and Legal Sciences). Evaluated Level A as a researcher (AEI). I have opened new lines of research that manifested themselves in an intense participation in national and international conferences and stays in academic centers abroad (Genoa, Florence, Glasgow, Leicester and Paris). Regular participation in projects (national, regional and with entities, such as PI in some of them), also a member of the editorial board IHE (AEHE) and membership of many associations of national and international historians. These networks have favored my scientific trajectory.
Main scientific-technical achievements
1. Banking history, the European savings bank system (19th-20th centuries): seminal contributions on the Galician, Asturian and the Balearic Islands savings bank system; institutional diversity in European banking systems; enterprise versus philanthropy in savings banks, seminal contributions on Scottish TSBs and comparative analysis of several European countries.
2. Seminal contributions on technological innovation in contemporary retail banking, historical and international perspective: ICT in Spanish banks and banks; comparison with the British case; contributions on the European case and the Nordic countries.
3. Seminal contributions on the modernization of the Spanish food trade. Structural change in retail markets in southern Europe.
4. Recent contributions in the field of European banking digitalization, a cross-industry approach: banking, retail trade and payment innovations in the digital era.
Scientific-technical projection
The previous project of which I was an IP (HAR2016-75375-R Technological innovation, collaboration and financial inclusion in retail banking: historical evolution and keys to the future, 1950-2015), has been successfully developed as a one-person project. Among its objectives, it was proposed that it should be "the prerequisite for a projection in the short and medium term that should lead to an interdisciplinary project on a European horizon". In this line, MONFIN emerged, approved in the 2019 call (PID2019-106273RB-I00), a multidisciplinary and innovative research project (with 2 PIs) that, from sociology, economics and history, is explaining how they are transforming money and means of payment, what are the actors and processes involved in this transformation and what are its social consequences in financial terms. inclusion of families and companies. With an expanded team (European and transatlantic projection), the same shared direction and a bias towards the interests of the consumer and user (citizens), a new project is presented in the 2022 call.
